I know it’s been a while since I last updated my blog, but I have some fun stuff to share with you!
If you know me, you know how much I love Yosemite. I mean, I try to get up there every chance I get! Yosemite just holds a very special place in my heart. Growing up in Fresno has given me the blessing of being so close to Yosemite and has given me the privilege and the ability to visit often. And I am so very, very thankful.
Also, if you know me, you know how much I love people. Making new friends was something I was intimidated to do in the past but as I’ve grown I have found a very deep passion for making new connections and friendships. I love meeting new people and taking time to get to know them for who they are, include them in what is going on, and encourage them in the abilities, skills, and talents they have. I’m very thankful for the people I meet!
So, those are two things I love dearly and last weekend, I got to incorporate the two together during the “Instameet” that Tenaya Lodge and National Park System put together in Yosemite! I got to spend time in Yosemite making new friends and connecting with people through Instagram!
We all met on a very snowy Saturday at the Badger Pass Ski Area in Yosemite and from the beginning you could tell it was going to be a fun day. I have to second the thoughts of my friend, Grace, whom blogged the day as well (GO HERE) and agree that I really loved how there was a tent sent up with greeters from the National Park Service welcoming us. Like Grace said, it was very clear that you were wanted there.
People came from all over the state of California ranging from the Los Angeles area all the way to the Bay Area & Sacramento! It was a very good turn out with a ton of people who showed up. We strapped in our snowshoes and we all headed for the Old Glacier Point Road trail. We trekked through the snow having great conversation and taking awesome photos! It even snowed a few times with a ton of flakes gently falling. It was absolutely captivating!
After that, we had a chance to hit the slopes on snowboards/skis. It was totally awesome! I absolutely loved hanging out with everyone. And while I may not have gotten to meet everyone, I hope everyone enjoyed their time & left feeling that their sense of community grew a little larger last weekend. That is why we do these meets, not to focus necessarily on just getting awesome photos or doing fun outdoor recreation, but to encourage others and to build our community to be bigger & stronger. It’s about the laughs that keep you laughing long after the meet, the deep conversations that cause you to walk further than you need to, the photos to hold as memories, and most of all, the relationships and friendships created that will last beyond the initial meet. I surely left feeling very positive about the day.
After a fun Saturday, we woke up from our stay at Tenaya Lodge (Find it here, their lodge is incredible) to find that everything was completely covered in snow! It was absolutely beautiful to see the park in snow! I HIGHLY recommend that everyone visit Yosemite in the snow. It is pure magic. Absolutely captivating.
Until next time,
You know what I mean?
